I will be recovering and holidaying, hopefully, at some point in the late Spring / early Summer. I need to put that in my diary before I overbook again! But I’ve a few lovely gigs and things coming up, to keep things ticking over, and start to air some new material…

HOMESTART Tuesday 9th June – Literary Lunch for Homestart – I’ll be hosting and interviewing fiction writer Hannah Beckerman.  I absolutely loved talking to Hannah about her last book, “The Forgetting,” and her new book “Three Mothers” is guaranteed to be just as gripping, twisty and beautiful as the first.  Looking foward to it! 

THE BIG LUNCH Sunday 14th June 12noon – 4pm – Dudley Recreation Ground – this is a gorgeous, small but big-hearted local community festival – free to come along. Details and a timetable of acts will be available nearer the time. FAMILY-FRIENDLY

POETRY SHACK Thursday 25th June 8pm – Candid Arts, North London. I’ll be performing a set at this often-chaotic, frequently extraordinary, always big-hearted poetry club – with William Wyld and Martin Rowson, hosted by Jack Shamash.

HILTON FEAST Thursday 23rd July – 5pm – Hilton Hotel, Cambridge – I’ll be doing a 40-minute set of poetry and song at this amazing local festival.  Looking forward to it!  Links to come. FAMILY-FRIENDLY

LAMBETH FRINGE FESTIVAL Saturday 4th October, 11am and 3pm A NOISE ANNOYS at Vauxhall City Farm. My first gig in a farm, and the first show date in London!

EXETER Friday 10th October, 10am to 12noon “M/Others on the Mic” at Exeter Library – I performed some of my grown-up material at this lovely-looking daytime get-together for parents and carers with little ones in tow. Honestly, everything about this gig was absolutely delightful – and there aren’t many opportunities to see me perform grown-up stuff in the daytime…!

DORCHESTER (DORSET) Sunday 12th October, 2pm A NOISE ANNOYS at Dorchester Arts, Dorset. Dorset is probably my favourite English county… but that’s just the icing on the cake. This is a great venue in a beautiful town.

LITTLE SHELFORD (CAMBS) Saturday 18th October, 3pm A NOISE ANNOYS at Little Shelford Memorial Hall, Cambridge, CB22 5HG, hosted by All Saints Church in Shelford. I stayed on after this show for a Q&A session for any questions the audience had about me, my inspiration, my work, my writing, my favourite colour or whether my dog is named after someone in the Christmas story!!

HEREFORD Tuesday 28th October 11am A NOISE ANNOYS at the Hereford Courtyard Theatre The history of this booking goes back to March, when the Courtyard’s Associate Director sat in when I was soundchecking for a Showcase gig organised by touring network Arts Alive, and promptly booked the show for the theatre’s family festival!! “A Noise Annoys is a really wonderful show for anyone but especially children and families. It delights in the joy of words, story and music, which Jude blends so skillfully to create a hugely enjoyable piece.” – David Durant, Associate Director, The Courtyard, Hereford.

Summer – Autumn 2025

OUNDLE Saturday 26th July, 2.30pm and 4pm A NOISE ANNOYS: POP-UP VERSION at Oundle Library, Glapthorn Rd, Oundle PE8 4JA. A shortened version of the show (about 30 minutes) presented as part of Oundle Festival of Literature to launch the library’s summer reading scheme.

WORTHING Saturday 2nd August, 11am A NOISE ANNOYS in The Pavilion Atrium, Pavilion Theatre, Worthing, West Sussex – the full show, in this wonderful venue on the South Coast.

Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th August BIG CHURCH FESTIVAL, Wiston House, West Sussex – I’ll be performing, hosting and slamming at the Spoken Word Tent, once again hosted by the Bible Society and marvellous Dai Woolridge. Drop by to see me host this year’s Poetry Slam and you might have the chance to take part as a judge, scoring the brave newcomers who will be performing their verses in the hope of winning the would-be-coveted-if-that-were-not-clearly-sinful crown of Big Church Slam Champion 2026! Spring 2025

Thursday March 20th – “Off Grid” Hereford – showcase performance for Rural Touring in Hereford – I’ll be presenting material from “A Noise Annoys” and other companies and performers will also be pitching their shows.

Friday March 21st – Urban Wordsmiths, Cardiff – I had a headline spot at this legendary spoken word night curated by Dai Woolridge.

Sunday 13th April – “Book Buzz”, Arts Depot in North London – I presented some “A Noise Annoys” material as part of “Book Buzz”, their weekend festival of family entertainment.

Tuesday April 29th – the Old Bull Inn, Royston, Hertfordshire – Literary Lunch for Homestart, featuring novelist and poet Ruth Leigh. I talked with Ruth about the writing life, starting a publishing co-operative, her love of Jane Austen and of course her four “Isabella M Smugge” books, which are wonderfully entertaining yet heartfelt “Mum’s-eye-view” comedies.

Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th May, 2pm – A NOISE ANNOYS at Peterborough Key Theatre. The full family show, presented in the Studio Theatre. I also used these performances to launch my book, “A Noise Annoys” which accompanies the show.

Thursday 8th May,7.30pm Two Sisters Arts Centre, near Felixstowe – I delivered a spoken word set, supporting Luke Wright’s solo spoken word show “JOY” – Luke is one of the UK’s finest spoken word performers.

Sunday 5th May 2.30pm – Cambridge Junction Theatre – “A NOISE ANNOYS” – the latest development of my famiy / children’s show comes to the Junction Theatre in Cambridge.
A Noise Annoys is a Poetry Show for all the senses! It features rhymes, noises, challenges, surprises and lots of audience interaction. Bursting with joyful humour and witty wordplay, Jude takes the audience on a mind-bending journey through the sounds of language, and the language of sounds. There is lots of joy, a healthy dose of nonsense, and a few heartfelt moments of beautiful hush.

Friday 17th May – Baldock Festival – St Mary’s Church, Baldock, Herts 7.30pm – a whole evening of me!! Sharing work old and new, chucking some silly songs around, a bit of interactive voting – all that sort of thing… I’m really looking forward to this one.

Saturday 25th / Sunday 26th May Big Church Festival -Wiston Estate, West Sussex – I’ll be at the Spoken Word Tent, hosted by the Bible Society. I’ll be hosting the Poetry Slam on Saturday evening, then performing on Sunday – one set of poetry in the afternoon, and appearing again later in the “Bless-Off”s – Woohoo!!

Friday 21st June – Lady J’s Summertime Marvels, Two Sisters Arts Centre, Trimley-St-Mary, nr Felixstowe. “Lady J hosts a selection of her favourite regional acts across music, spoken word and improv. Expect an eclectic night of entertainment that will leave you feeling all warm inside from an evening well spent in the company of some of our region’s finest!

I’m really excited to be hosting Val Jeal MBE in early October. I will be interviewing Val about the book we wrote together, “Broken by Love,” which charts her inspiring journey working with marginalised women in Bristol. Excitingly, the book has been shortlisted for Biography/Memoir of 2023 by Christian Resources Together!

All events are free to attend. Val will be selling and signing her book at each one. Val’s story has wide appeal, but does deal with gritty subjects, including prostitution, drug addiction and harm.  These events will be appropriate to any adults, and accompanied teenagers.  

Wednesday 11th October “Short Scratchings” at The Junction, Cambridge, at 6.30pm. I’ll be presenting a short, interactive performance (10-20 minutes) of children’s material based on my poetry collection “A Noise Annoys.” Please come and bring your kids!! It’s free, but you have to book in! This event is enabled by the Junction’s Artistic Development Programme TROOP, of which I’m really enjoying being a part!

Thursday 22nd June – I’m performing in “Transcendence” – a faith-based spoken word event in Brixton, South London, hosted by Final Call Productions. I’m chuffed to be featuring at this brilliant night on Thursday 22nd June, 7pm-10pm at Upstairs at The Ritzy in Brixton.  There will also be open mic spots and a special FCP showcase. Tickets here.

Spring 2023

Saturday 4th March – I’m hosting Royston Homestart’s 40th birthday celebration concert, “Celebrating Voices,” featuring four local choirs and entertainer Sarah Harrison. I’ll be performing some of my own poems too. More details and tickets here.

Saturday 18th March – I’ll be performing at Comberton Baptist Church, with my great friend, musician Paul Bell, giving you a dose of the “best medicine”! 7.30pm. Tickets and more details here.

Thursday 20th April (tbc) – planned launch of “Broken by Love” by Val Jeal (co-authored by me) in Bristol – I’m so looking forward to this event, rescheduled due to Val getting covid the first time round! I think we’re being joined by Marvin Rees, the Mayor of Bristol, and Peaches Golding, the Lord Lieutenant. It will also be a great chance to meet and see the work of One25 – the charity Val founded. I’m afraid it’s a private event, but hopefully I’ll be able to share some pictures!

Thursday 27th April – I’m interviewing Cambridge-based novelist and creative writing tutor Menna Van Praag for Homestart’s Literary Lunch. It will be at the Old Bull in Royston. Check out their events page for details and tickets.

Wednesday 17th May – I’m performing at the King’s Head in Woodbridge, Suffolk, courtesy of Justine de Mierre music.

Saturday 27th / Sunday 28th May – I’ve been confirmed to return to Big Church Festival at the Spoken Word Tent. This was an absolute blast last year, so give me a shout if you’re heading there in 2023 – it would be lovely to say hello!

Saturday May 14th 2022 – I’ll be presenting Homestart’s “Strictly Come Dancing” charity event – this local version of the iconic BBC show is promising to be completely hilarious, and full of life-affirming fun!! Local couples team up to compete for the trophy by impressing a lineup of local expert judges…
